You Must Believe

People are not going to stop believing crazy shit. That is not going to happen. You believe some crazy shit. I know, because I have stopped. 

My dad will never stop believing that Noah’s Ark was real and that there is incontrovertible evidence that that is the case - The Bible. My father believes the Bible is a true historical document and he will never stop.

That is belief. 

You think that Noah’s Ark was not real, you know that Noah’s Ark was not real, but you do not believe Noah’s Ark wasn’t real. 

If we did find evidence in the future, you would change your mind. The lack of evidence does not deter belief, the presence of evidence deters belief. 

You must believe what is true or you will never understand truth. You must not know anything because you do not know anything. If you leave open the possibility that you can change your mind, then realize that you are in a position right now to do what you are capable of doing. 

You know that you are capable of change, because if there’s new evidence, you will change your mind. But you do not believe you are capable of change until you change. Belief is action. Belief is doing. M

My father is believing that Noah’s Ark was real because he is behaving like Noah’s Ark was real and that is a good thing to do! Because of this, he is a follower of Jesus’ teachings - unfortunately he also believes the rest of the Bible - and he is kind, generous, loving, and above all a servant. He believes Jesus when Jesus says be a servant! 

You don’t! 

It is not good, it is not right, for you to know things if you are not capable of change. My dad is not capable of change, and because of this, he believes in crazy shit!

Believing that crazy shit is how he learned to be kind, generous, loving, and a servant. You don’t actually believe in the law. You don’t. You know it’s real. What you believe in is what you do. If you believe in rightness and community, create and be a part of a community of rightness, not one of the law.
